Research in Learning
Enhancing Professional Learning Through Video Game Roleplay
With younger generations entering the workplace, expectations for workplace training programs are rapidly shifting. Younger generations are looking for more interactivity in training programs to keep them engaged. One potential tool that can offer this interactivity is video game roleplay. This paper reviews existing literature on both workplace learning as well as roleplay and then correlates it to two roleplay experiences I’ve personally had in video games recently. The goal is to examine what learning is taking place while roleplaying and how these types of experiences can be used to enhance professional learning. Equity concerns toward using video game roleplay in the workplace are also discussed.
