eLearning Brothers posted this short article on their blog about microlearning in eLearning design. It’s a quick read, but the basics of microlearning include:
- Requires a short amount of time
- Covers very specific topics
- Exists (often) as part of a larger curriculum
I tend to try and keep these same principles in mind when creating my own courses. I’ve worked on a few 16 module courses, but will typically try to keep each section around 5-15 minutes. This allows learners to come and go as they please and not dedicate huge chunks of their time at once. It also helps greatly with keeping learners engaged. I’ve found that after 15 minutes, learners will start to lose interest.
What do you think? Do you have any other tips to share?
